Wings of Sport was founded in spring of 2009 by Tony Pedeferri, a CHP officer and 10 time Ironman triathlon finisher. The exclusive purpose of the organization is to operate as a charitable, non-profit, 501(c)3 corporation. Tony was an elite level triathlete and extremely active in outdoor activities. After his incident in December 2007, he emerged as a paraplegic completely paralyzed from the upper chest down with moderate traumatic brain injury. Tony turned to sports as he progressed in his treatment. He quickly realized the high cost involved in attaining the proper equipment to participate in disabled sports activities. Tony was surprised to learn of the large disparity that existed between the high cost of sporting wheel chairs, disabled sports equipment, and the resources for most people to attain them. This disparity was present across all backgrounds for both youth and adults. From this observation, the mission of the foundation was born in order to equalize this disparity. Wings of Sport exists to make a positive difference in the lives of people with spinal cord disabilities.
This will be achieved by providing athletic equipment to those individuals with a justified need. The criteria will based upon their financial need, athletic endeavors, and their ability to promote disabled athletics. The goal is to allow them to get involved with athletics after suffering a disabling spinal cord injury. In addition to providing disabled athletic equipment, the foundation will have the ability to provide the following:Click here to view more pictures of Tony
